Invisalign® Treatment Schedule
Invisalign® offers many benefits, including results comparable to those produced by traditional metal braces in roughly the same amount of time that treatment with metal braces would require. Most patients who are suitable candidates for Invisalign® treatment are able to achieve excellent results within six months to a year, depending on their orthodontic needs and goals.
Over the course of treatment, our Boston Invisalign® patients are expected to wear several custom-crafted aligners, each designed to guide the teeth ever closer to their optimal positions within the mouth. Every two weeks or so, patients switch out the aligner they are currently wearing for the next in the series. The aligners are comfortable and virtually invisible from a reasonable distance, making the treatment a relative snap. Unlike traditional metal braces, the Invisalign® aligners can be removed for up to two hours a day. Therefore, patients can eat whatever they like (though, of course, they are advised to eat healthy foods) and can brush and floss with ease. The restrictions that metal braces impose on patients for up to a year, and in some cases even longer, are practically non-existent with Invisalign®
More severe cases of misalignment may require a treatment time of more than a year. Unfortunately, Invisalign® is not a suitable treatment for all patients, and certain patients may not be able to achieve the results they desire with Invisalign®. In these cases, traditional orthodontic treatment may be recommended or even necessary to preserving their oral health and comfort.
