Choosing a Cosmetic Dentist | Procedures & Factors
Finding the right cosmetic dentist can mean the difference between a smile that lights you up, and one that brings you down. From a simple tooth bonding to a dental implant or bridge, Dental Associates of New England has compiled a list of several cosmetic dental procedures and common factors to consider when choosing the right cosmetic dentist for you.
Selecting a Crown Color
Typically, patients prefer to whiten their natural teeth in order to obtain an optimal level of whiteness in which to match the dental work to. At Dental Associates of New England, we currently offer several whitening options, including the Zoom2 whitening treatment, as well as custom fitted bleaching trays. Because teeth are not monochromatic, more than one color is often used; color variation is critical in avoiding artificial looking teeth. Surface texture is also very important, giving crowns, caps, bridges or implants natural look.
Cosmetic Dentistry Treatment Plans
Typically, a treatment plan is made at the consultation appointment. The plan is used to outline the steps and stages of the recommended treatment. Treatment can often have multiple options, and can vary depending on patient preference or circumstance. In general, treatment plans give the patient an idea of the analysis, solutions, and financial components of the treatment ahead.
Causes of Tooth Discoloration
Discolorations can occur for a number of reasons; most frequently that list includes staining, aging, or chemical damage. The most common culprits include frequent and repeated exposure to cigarettes, coffee, and tea. For many patients, teeth whitening is a simple and attractive solution, due to its lower cost.
Tooth Bonding
Bonding is a composite resin, tooth-colored and similar to natural enamel that is bonded to the tooth surface to change and/or repair the color or shape of a tooth. Once the bonding is secured onto the tooth, it is then sculpted, hardened, and polished. Bonding has a variety of uses, including correcting a chipped or decayed tooth, filling a small cavity, closing spaces between teeth, and covering the surface of a tooth for contouring purposes.
Correcting Missing Teeth
There are several options available for missing teeth, bridges and implants some of the most common. Both are designed to replace missing teeth, but they also help support the teeth around missing teeth as well.
Contouring Jagged Teeth
In some instances, simple reshaping or contouring of the front teeth, can correct jagged, chipped or slightly uneven teeth. Often cosmetic dentists simply utilize sanding discs and/or rubber wheels to create a natural look with existing teeth.
